Kona Kula to replace broken Stumpy

For the Fourth look into my Bike Garage I offer this Kona Kula I picked up off eBay to replace the Stumper I broke earlier this month. I believe this is a '97 model but the color is subtly different from the catalog photo. At any rate I am going to build it as a 2x9 with a road cassette. Also included in the sale was a nifty Kona post.

The other pics of the work in progress shoe the SID fork that was NOS last summer and was the main reason I had to build a bike compatible with the parts off the Stumpjumper

Lastly for you entertainment the pic of the cracked frame.

That's a beauty!! ...much nicer than a Stumpy, but that's just one man's opinion
Don't reckon it's a '97 though, I had a '97 year's ago and it didn't have a replaceable rear hanger, much to my dismay as I sheared mine off in a crash (it was a very bad day :cry: )
The sticker's say '98 but the headtube and cable routing say '99, so perhap's one of the very first from '99?
Still a beauty no matter what the year!

No, you were quite right in your research - it's just the 1998 Kona catalogue that's wrong! They must have taken the decision to route all cables along the top tube quite late in the process, and after the catalogue photos were taken. All the catalogue photos show down tube rm cabling, but in the event all 1998 production Konas had top tube routing.

Finally got around to finishing the Kula, see attached for a few pics of the bike before its inaugural ride. I am using 9 speed road gearing and rear mech, SID fork, Race Face and Shimano for most everything else. Also note the Team Kahlua water bottle which is fun if nothing else
