I would like to trade my 1997 original factory race frame for a 17" (not long) Kona Score frame.

The frame I have is a 17" 1997 Kona King Kahuna. This frame was a factory backup race frame.

I really enjoy this bike, and I'll continue to ride it until I find someone to trade. I do not want to sell it for cash at this point in time.

The reason for the trade comes down to riding style. If I try to ride this bike as hard and fast through the rough rooted rocky trails around Seattle and Bellingham as I do on the FS Kona's I'm gonna get hurt. I need a bit more front travel and not so XC/racy geo. I'm also a HUGE Kona fan, I need a Ti OB Kona frame. The Score is the only one I'll consider over this King Kahuna.

This frame is an non-issued backup frame for the Kona race team back in 97. The original owner purchased it from an emplyee at Kona in 1999. He lived in Bellingham (8-10 miles south of Ferndale). I purchased the bike from him in Bellingham as well. Kona tech support also supports the claim that this was an old race frame probably backup for Leslie Greene or Lesley Tomlinson.

Here is a link to the post regarding the initial purchase and fact finding: http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewto ... sc&start=0

If the point in time ever does come where you do wish to sell, I'd be very interested :D

Me too!

Great find bud...that is a beauty.. humbrol model paint is what i used on my "Hot"..being a matt finish it is quite "forgiving".. the code is SM 360..as i say not perfect..a could quality artist brush and cocktail stick should sort you out..

nice one bud..

further to my last...it might be worth just picking up a colour swatch from your local model shop..yours does to be a brighter green than mine...when it comes to matching the colours try mixing a little matt white to lighten the clours if needed..i used to just "test" by just dabbing a bit on the underneath of the bottom bracket to get a match..hope this help

I'll be looking into matching the paint, although I may not start changing much of the bike beyond its current condition for a while.

I don't have the luxery of storage at the moment, so the bikes I keep are the ones I ride. I also don't have the luxery of being content with a leisurely pace, so I ride the piss out of my bikes.

The old rule was I didn't get a new frame until the old one was busted or unsafe to ride. Hence the 96 Sex One --> 07 Kikapu Deluxe & 02 Bear --> 08 Dawg Frames. With this frame I don't want to break it or ugly it up to much. I would prefer to leave the restoration to someone who would enjoy spending the time filling the chips.

We will see how she performs tomorrow. I've spent the better part of a year getting the rear shock on my 07 Kik tuned and setup properly. It absolutely melts the trails, berms and roots & all. I won't be surprised if I eat dirt tomorrow trying to keep up the old pace.

I'll try and wipe the blood and bark off as best I can :)

...nonono, don't break it mate! ...or yourself for that matter!

Not meaning to flog a dead horse here, but (ahem) I'm still interested :D

...it would appear I have no shame  ...

btt..

I did take it out for a ride... this bike is FAST up & down...needs to work in the stopping dept though, old V- brake pads don't stop like new XT discs... Yikes
