kona kilauea frameset and bits [ebay.co.uk]

its not a 99.

1998 & 1999 had all the cable routed along the TT IIRC.

This is a mixture possible 1996 :?

Anthony will know

I could of course be horribly wrong!

yep think my bro's '98 Caldera had TT cable routing but those dropouts are not like my '96 Kona. '97? where's Anthony when you need him?

The mixed cable routing means it's a 1997 Kona of some kind.

The picture isn't very good, but if you reckon the dropouts resemble the ones below, with the stays fitting into rings on the dropouts, then it would indeed be a 97 Kilauea, as they were used only on the Kilauea, Explosif and Hot and the Explosif had diferent shaped tubes. I'm guessing it isn't a Hot. Only a guess, mind.

If it is a 97 Kilauea it is the lightest of the Kilaueas, weighing 4.3lbs for this size 18, with a frame made of Columbus Cyber. I think it's dynamically an excellent frame, but unfortunately it looks pretty bad at the moment, especially with those awful imitation decals. The market says it's only worth £100 or so, even with good paint and decals, so logically it isn't worth £70 in this state.

So it is a kilauea? Hmm.. interesting, and I have the correct decal set for it... and any other 97 kona for that matter.. mind you £70 plus £18.. yes £18 postage.. no chance.

yeah the price is a bit high to start too, thinking maybe with teh p2's and whatnot, and not much action, could be ok. but as ever im glad i joined this forum before i thought about buying a steel kona off ebay :)

Actually you're quite right, I think I was blinded by those abysmal decals. Please don't think I was trying to put anyone off buying it because I want it for myself. I already have one anyway.

The P2 is also from 97 and looks in good condition. It's triple-butted if it's original to the frame (they cost £1,000 with P2s in 97, frame-only £399) and a tb 97 P2 is worth c£25. And I suppose the brakes could be LX or XT as they're parallelogram, in which case they'd be worth £25-30 as well if the rears are the same. Anonymous riser bar £10, looks like an Orange post (?) a fiver, could be the original Tahoma stem another fiver and tidy-enough headset. He says the paint is unmarked, so if you like the colour I guess you could make the frame worth getting on for £100 if you rescued it with authentic decals in the 97 orangey yellow. So all in all I was completely wrong, £70 is a fair starting price.

This is what it should look like (not mine)
