Kona frames weight???

3.jpg

I've just picked up one of these...
I am going to strip it and rebuild it inabit

:D

The Cinder Cone BTW! Full XCD but a Turbo sadlle rather than a Avocet. Wrong tyres also...

Cheers ctk, have now bought a 93 lavadome. Apparantly for 93 the cindercone and Lavadome shared the same frame construction. Also has the tiple butted forks, i believe. Obviously components a step down from the CK.

Kona Frame Weight

I found this from a previous discussion:

fire mountain = double butted main tubes
lava dome = double butted main tubes of better quality, changed geometry (1/2" extra in the top tube)
cinder cone = full double butted
kilauea = fancy branded steel
explosif = fancier branded steel

Hope it helps.....

konaretro.com site has all the catologues- ah 93 it was a very good year :)
They still need 88, 89 and 95, 96.
Do you know for a fact there were separate 88 and 89 ranges/catalogues ernestrome? Several of us suspect that the '88' catalogue that we have is really better regarded as the '88/89' and that that range was the only one before the 1990 range that is on konaretro.

cc always the same as ld, neither ever had butted stays (except the 2003 ld!), longer top tube was from 94 onwards

Incidentally 'fancy branded' sounds a bit dismissive, but take 1997 top tubes - Lava Dome 31.9 x 9-6-9 generic 4130, Kilauea 28.6 x 7-4-7 Columbus Cyber. i.e., Cyber's specific strength was so much higher than generic 4130 that they could gain a big advantage in both weight and 'ping' and yet still obtain the required strength.

Oh quite, that's a good point, I expect Stewart Pratt knows more than any of us.
