Thanks for the offer but have decided to go with a brazed on cable guide as when I visited the LBS earlier they spotted an incipient crack in the head tube weld :evil: - they will weld in a gusset at the headtube so while doing that may as well add the guide. They also noticed that the rear mech hanger has been bent backwards but that should be easy to rectify.

It was a serious point actually. Most of us have comfortable old things like that table, and they don't bother us a bit. Then we buy a cycle frame and we think 'oh my God, it isn't perfect, must spend £150 on a complete respray and new decals.'

And then we're nervous about stacking it, and shout at our children if they go anywhere near it, etc.
