Kona Dog Collar

Just wondering if anyone has any ideas on a tidy way to run a rear V brake on this frame.
I have one of those problem solvers backstops but they don't look all that nice.
Was a hinged dog collar available for these older frames with the integrated seat clamps?

I've never seen a hinged Kona collar but I made a substitute out of a "Problem Solvers 'Cross Clamp with Cable Pulley" - One of these:

I removed the screw holding the pulley, drilled a hole through the raised area on the side of the clamp and ran the brake cable through. To secure the housing ferrule I just bumped it against the backside (though there is a small tube built into the silver Jagwire ferrule that you can't see that goes a few mm into the hole). This is probably clearer than the description (I took off the seat post clamp so you could see it better):

Not a perfect solution as the cable is about 5mm higher off of the frame at the seat post than a real Kona clamp but it looks pretty decent and works perfectly.

I haven't seen one in the flesh, but it looks as though the 91 frames had plastic guides flexible enough to bend round the tube and clamp at the back. Doesn't look much use for V-brakes though, I'm afraid.

Thanks for the help guys, the roller thing looks nice and tidy but it works out quite pricey with postage from the states.

Might just try a full length outer and see how that looks.

I have had a bike before with the metal dog collars and they do bend round to get on and off as i did it myself.

It was the older one , not the one with the dog on it

I had the chance to buy one the other night Jon, in fact it might still be for sale but I thought I would snap it bending out far enough to clear the seat clamp :?

It was tricky to get off , but it got on there in first place so thought it must come off.

just realised you're asking a different question to the one i thought

i'd probably run full outer and try to make the cable ties unobtrusive or use band on guides like old school road bikes

Mossy I don't read the first few lines":1bzqeexg said:

what you need is a v brake hanger which clamps arround the top tube close to the seat tube. See my for sale thred.
