knee / shin protection

you'll have to go retro on pads

Long socks and a daily mail

[best use for that rag,far better than reading it   ]

I see them coming up on ebay all the time
Check there, you might get a beter deal

I have race face ones that I've used when running flatties. You only have a sharkbite whallop your shin the once  They are a wee bit cumbersome for climbing and get a bit sweaty but generally you don't notice them.

This chap has it right!

I BMX with TSG chin guards and fuse knees that have hard caps in but fit under jeans

Comfortable but can stop BMX pedals with big pins in

knee pads

I have a set of RaceFace knee / shins for uplift days - but they are a bit cumbersome for day to day playing in the woods, let alone pure XC use, not to mention rather sweaty.

Unless you REALLY need shin protection (about 90% of my flatty-related injuries are to my calves rather than shins), I'd go with a set of 661 Kyle Straits (knee only). So light and comfy you don't even notice them - but with a hard shell under the neoprene to protect against serious offs. I never ride without em on my modern rig - and they even come in a (limited) choice of colours.

Ive still got a pair of those black neoprene shin/knee Hammer pads that the downhillers used in the mid nineties. Saved my shins many a time but no idea if you can get them now!
