Actually, is that too daft an idea  ? Dave.

Yep. You'll never get it perfectly flat and it'll wear in no time. Hang fire for a new axle. Thats the beauty of retrobike, its like fishing - the enjoyment is in the waiting and anticipation :)

ive just had this problem,
i have just changed my 125mm spindle for a 130mm spindle to give my cook bros cranks enough clearence so the outer chainring doesnt hit the chainstay.
after fitting the 130mm spindle (carefully using a hammer and a couple of bits of wood with strategic holes drilled in them )

the cooks cranks seem as if they could go on about 4mm more !

should i be worried about this ?
i really dont want to damage my expensive cranks !
