King Cyclocross

Re:

This one's not moving too quickly, as I am having difficulty deciding if I am going 2 x 10, 1 x 10, 1 x 11 or 2 x 11.

Anyway, got a pair of Ritchey bars the other day, a pair of S900 SRAM levers from the classifieds, JIC I go 1 X something, and then today a big box arrived.

My daughter put me on to Hunt and they looked good on line, so a quick e-mail conversation with the guys there convinced me they could do the job and an order was placed.

At around 1700g the pair, they are a good weight, and as they come ready taped and with tubeless valves, all I need to do now is decide on the tyres.

Re:

Right, more bits and pieces coming together on this.

Bars, Ritchey Classics, brand new and a little wider than normal for me at 44cm.

Levers, SRAM, bought from our very own classifieds.

Cranks, RaceFace Cadence, again from the classifieds and to be fitted with a 39 tooth chainring from Absolute Black.

And an inspiration from the older CX bikes. Having found it almost impossible to find a single SRAM 10 speed brake / shift lever, I suddenly struck upon an idea to use a singe TT shifter.

Bits to get.

Tyres are going to be either WTB Riddlers, if I can find some in the right width or Panaracer Gravel King.
Chainring, AB 39 tooth Oval, plus some RaceFace chainring bolts.
Cassette, Shimano XT 12-36
10 speed chain.
SRAM Rear Mech, probably an X5 to start but an X9 or X0 will replace it if it all works.

Then it will be time to touch in the chips with the paint Mark sent me, and get buildin.

Bar tape has been provided by our own Mike Muz... we will have to see how / if it matches.

Re:

Right, I have been waiting for the Christmas break in order to have the time to finally put this together, other projects have got a little in the way, as has the coughing bug that 'everyone has had', but finally I have finished the King / Two Face today.

Bar tape courtesy of Mike Muz. Movistar saddle courtesy of my daughter Kt... I know the green is not perfect, but it is what we have.

A quick whizz up and down the road says everything works, especially the FSA SLK canti's... why couldn't manufacturers make brakes like this in the 90's?

First ride will most likely be this weekend, and a trip to the Forest of Dean is planned very soon, so more (muddy) photos to follow.

Re:

It looks surprisingly nice for a modern bike! 8)

Hope it rides as well

Super super nice and cool build

What's it like, looks a tad up right with that stem, but that's a personal choice

Pretty much the perfect all rounder if you ask me, bridleways, country lanes, the worlds your oyster

What's the clearance like?

Re:

I'll know how it rides after the weekend, as I will take it for a proper ride over to Cheddar and back.

Clearance is fine; I have Panaracer Gravel King 35's fitted. I did want 40's but there weren't any in the UK at the time I was buying. I will take some closeup pictures but I measured both front and back when I was choosing tyres and I remember thinking I had loads of room.

The stem is a little long for me, so I thought I'd offset that, and make the riding position a little less race like by flipping it over. If I don't like it I will try it the other way up and if it's too long I have other Ritchey stems in stock.... albeit not green ones.

I have deliberately chosen a spread of gear ratio's that will allow sensible road speeds and offroad capability, so hopefully bridleways, fire roads etc will be where it is at home... we will see.

You are inspiring me, as I have a cotic escapde in the bike stand to finish off....

But it's dark, it's cold and I've not had my tea yet
