Hey all its my 1st post and what a revelation retrobike is!Im hitting 40 in a couple of years but after discovering this site Im immediately thrown into 1992,Drooling over crap overpriced and unreliable Mavic Mountain,Campy and Suntour.Lived to shred, downhilled on Dynatech hardtail with Tange Struts. In 1994 I had a big prob with Shimano`s souless monopoly so built a Shimanoless bike-Zaskar frame,Mag 21s,Mavic Dakaar hubs-noone wanted them so got em new for £30,Sachs freewheel,Mavic short cage road mech,xc pro front mech,xc comp MD crank,Sachs Regina chain and wait for it-Mavic under bar shifters!Needless to say I always had a spanner in my hand.Due to severe knee probs I havent shredded for 10 years but do you know what?If I could I`d still build another crap mis match overpriced thing.I guess thats why I still listen to The Damned,Infectious Grooves etc

Hi
Welcome to the infectious world of retrobike.

Don't be to hard on the big S, it did a lot for our sport/leisure/hobby/life call it what you will.

I know what your saying but it is business after all. Saying all that.
On the modern stead I'm running sram shifters and rear mech, looking to replace the XT cranks and XTR front mech too soon, so it will be a shimano free zone.

Enjoy the site, keeping posting and get yourself a ride and come along on a meet. It'll be like an episode of life on mars/ashes to ashes, only with bikes.

welcome to" fat old blokes (mostly) on bikes .com "

you could do some serious (cash)damage with a wish list like that

welcome here, and be aware of a load of Shimano :)

Somewhere I can imagine the Shimano hassle, but still how beautiful are some of their (old) parts?

Still I like Suntour today where I disliked it bitd (back in the day)

You'll see a lot of abbiviations like 'BITD" here so I explained what it is, because I didn't know if you knew and if it is a commom abbriviation. (I didn't know)

some common others are:

NOS - New Old Stock, left-over parts that are unused
NIB - New In Box

Have fun here and drool over more exotic and old beloved bikes.

Yes Infectious grooves! gotta love suicidal tendencies aswell

Had some on last night blasting the rockhopper down some beauty trails!

cyco miko!

dissins shimano

Im first to agree that shimano is unbeatable but back in the early 90s there was a big backlash against it,I guess it was just to be different. After my mismatch phase I went back to full XT with thumbies and it was bliss.I defy anyone to listen to "monster skank" by Infectious and not crash/blast your mates into the dirt.Man,I miss it

Re: dissins shimano

I think Shimano for me just raised the bar over the rest but that is just my own personal opinion. I mean look at this, works of art beautiful I know on here it's all about retro but come on this is lush :D http://www.shimano-yumeya.com/

Totaly with you on this fella Miko knows how to get you mosshin, I have seen suicidal 5 times and I always come out bouncing, but have to say Slayer rock my socks off. I went to see them with my friend james mcilroy from cradle of filth the last time they played London, man we were both super charged :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

For shimano to be a souless monopoly it has to be the only component parts supplier which it has never been. I like suntour just to be different but in many areas I cannot fault Shimano and its old road bike stuffs well nice 8)

Welcome new guy
