Hello

I have one of these specialized hotrocks, with a plastic guide thing:

What is for? To stop the kids getting caught in the train? Its broken on the one I have picked up and would rather ditch it to be honest.

It probably helps protect the chain if the bike is left out in the garden all the time. But you probably won't do that...

Otherwise, it stops kids trousers getting oily. It't not a safety component.

It really works for stopping rings impaling them when they fall off and helps keep the caajim on (maybe don't know that design.)

Better setups use a raised plastic rings around the front chainring if protection (skin or clothes) from the chain is no concern.
