KHS Montana Comp 1993

Retro Newbie
Hello All, I picked this up on Friday for £104. 4hr round trip but good audiobook on. Jeffrey Maffahey Atomic Accidents if anyone is interested.
Turns out it is all original, bar the saddle which i have found an older bontrager which is damn close to the original. The stem cap isn't an angled one but I think I have found one.
Just ordered new panaracer Dart and Smoke. I am stripping the whole bike and rebuilding, servicing and touching up the paint over the next few weeks.
I bought this model for my 13th birthday back in 1993. Took me ages to find a small frame. I have added the Onza bar ends as that is what I fitted back I the day.
So far I have serviced and cleaned the front wheel and hub, add a new back brake cable and cleaned all the frame where people has stuck tape to it.
Will add some pictures when I have got to as near new as possible without a full frame respray. 😁

Ooh, nice. I agonized over (spending my life savings on) this bike vs the Tange Prestige Specialized Stumpjumper back in 1993 (also at the age of 13...). I eventually went with the Stumpjumper but I still have the full specs of both bikes memorized, and I'm sure I'd have been just as happy with the KHS.

One odd thing - I distinctly recall that the bike was uniform dark purplish-blue, similar if not the same to the Montana Pro model, but I can't find that in any of the catalog PDFs. This was in Canada though, maybe they had some different colorways... (the EU catalog mentions Germany getting an exclusive black model). It also had a silver Zoom stem, not the black KHS one.

I'm sure I'm not mixing up the Comp and the Pro as I was very aware of the differences (I couldn't afford the Pro, with XT, or the Team, with XTR).

Your right is says about the black version in Germany. I have seen some different colours on some parts on Comps as I have been looking. I think some might have been due to mixing and matching parts. I.e. silver crank arms and the silver zoom stems eother from factory or owners.
It's funny about the stumperjumper as that was one the ones I was considering at the time but the KHS colour scheme won me over.
