Just Picked Up A Bianchi - What Model?

I've just picked up this Bianchi and although its fairly entry level for Bianchi I wondered if anyone would know what model it could be?

Looks to be mid 80s? It has the Tubi Calibrati 1-20 decal, which I assume is italian for gas pipe Although I have heard it said that Bianchi gas pipe is very good. Gipiemme dropouts with wheel adjusters. Chrome forks and chainstay although the whole frame has been chromed and then painted. Weinmann callipers (I'll look for a date on these tonight) Ofmega chainset and Shimano Z Series levers and derailleurs.

It needs the usual 'deep cleanse' bar tape and cables. I'll post some more pics when its buffed and polished

Looks like a middle-of-the-range bike because a top-end would have been a more special steel and tighter clearances but a bottom-end wouldn't have been chromed. I agree with your mid 80's judgement. Brazed-on shifters give it away, but the non-aero brakes tell you it wasn't in the late 80's.

I expect it probably rides quite nicely because it's a Bianchi. Lovely big droopy drops on the bars by the look of it, too!

Yep, that's the Bianchi frame number 766502. I was hoping with having such prominent number it would be easy to trace, unfortunately it seems Bianchi frame numbers don't mean a lot :?

I have found a date on the calipers of 1985. After a careful look over the frame it is definitely fully chromed under the paint. Dread to think what it would cost to chrome a frame these days!

I've had small parts re-chromed and they weren't cheap so £700 doesn't surprise me. Pretty horrible process as well, I was only stood in the factory reception for 10 minuets but you soon get a nasty metal taste in your mouth :?

Been having a surf and it looks like Bianchi had 19 different models selling into Europe in 1985, nothing like narrowing things down!

Made a start with the forks last night which have cleaned up pretty well

Bit early to say for definite, but a first pull on the seat post didn't give any movement Might be having my hacksaw blade out this weekend.
