I have been working at the site since weds and I have to say it's not my favourite of the festivals.

It is full of idiots from all parts of life but mostly young boys and girls in Hunter wellies enjoying drink and drugs on daddy's money!

A far cry from "the spirit of 71" they bang on about. . . .

I went once in 2000 and I pretty much second the above. I saw more drug taking and stealing in the three/four days I worked there than my lifetime!

There were some gems amongst the shite line up this year (QOTSA & 808 State) but I really, really wouldn't have parted with £200 to go.

My eldest (she's 13 now) is pestering me to take her to the festival in the next couple of years.

Having read this I think i may have to find better a better alternative...

Ironically it's probably the best festival for younger (and older!) ages. Family camping is available, and there is something for everyone.

I cant say I agree with it but you even see tons of people with push chairs and toddlers.

My main gripe is the façade that it's all about the music and love and peace blah blah blah.

. . . . .It's not, it's about money and being seen. There are still genuine guests and some interesting acts / shows / stalls that you will find no where else though.

I prefer the Reading / Leeds festivals that are more commercial but not pretentious. The music is also more to my liking :D

As for crime, it has been steadily falling for many years but it is mainly theft from tents (apart from drugs!). Common sense prevails here I think

I'd have paid a few quid to go to see 808 State play at Bez's acid house 8)
I had a ticket reserved but didn't bother to pay the balance after seeing the line-up.
Really glad I didn't bother as I've been sick as a dog all weekend!

Perhaps she may get to go then (I've had a hankering to go for nigh-on 30 years so it's a 2 birds with one stone thing ;) )

Maybe send her and the missus off the V in between, it's considerably closer and we can see how she is among massive crowds..

When I saw they were playing along with Alex Patterson (the Orb) I almost wished I was there :D

I do think Glasto does have something for everyone and you just have to go and look for it. Personally I wouldn't have paid a tenner to see any of the headline acts as they just weren't my cuppa!

I've been to the last 21 Glastonbury Festivals and apart from when I got food poisoning in the mid 90's I have enjoyed every single one. As mentioned earlier in the thread the crime levels continue to fall steadily and are far lower than you would find in a city of comparable size (say Newcastle) over the same time frame. Yes there are idiots there, but aren't there idiots in every walk of life? As for the line up, it wasn't the best this year, but I didn't see many bands and still had an awesome time. Amazing theatre, circus, comedy etc all around the site. 8) Very tired now though!

I've only been to one. Can't remember the year only that Plant and Page were there that year.
Jumped the wall :D

Well it was my first and I loved every minute of it. So much more to do than just watch bands. Everyone I met was super friendly. Bar prices were comparable to London and there was a very wide selection available cmpared to most festivals. Did not have any trouble at all. The mud quickly became a non issue. The toilets were better than I was expecting.

I was awestruck by the scale and detail, especially in shangrila. It real his a performing arts festival more so than the beeb can portray. I adopted Avalon for most of the weekend. Lots of folk/punk folk type stuff going on. Flogging Molly being my highlight music wise. The pair of 19 year old students/staffers that picked my mate and I up while we were dancing like silly buggers to a comedy village disco in the cabaret field being one of the non musical highlights.

I'd do it all again!

Only been to Glasto once in 2000 and loved it. Really wished I was there this year when I saw the coverage on TV and seriously considering it for next year. The only thing that I really hate about festivals are the toilets and traffic. But certainly in 2000 the Perry (loopy juice) on sale more than made up for this!! 8)
