Just bought a '96 Kona Koa

Gregolas

Devout Dirtbag
So, I've just bought this. I'm a bit of a sucker for an old Kona, and justified this purchase by making it my commuting / allrounder bike. (I have a full sus for the weekends).

I'm thinking of taking it back to close to original spec. So on the lookout for some project 2 forks to start with. I'll be riding as is though and replacing odd parts as I go. No hurry.
But first, tomorrow i'll be stripping it back and servicing it.

Any thoughts and opinions much appreciated.

Re: Koa

I have had a number of Konas and picked up a '96 Koa (gold metalic) last year, great frame poor original components and RST fork. The frame is well worth upgrading check derailler hanger (non replaceable) and paint issues otherwise great bike......
underated and rarer than A-A only built between 95-97.

I ride a '95 Kilauea Columbus Cyber the best Kona I've ridden never had a Exposif to compare.

Past Konas
Lava Domes, Cinder Cones + Kula

ps Love my Orange but Kona is 1st pick ride.

Those RST forks were a common aftermarket upgrade on bikes like Koas, fitting the right kind of budgetary point. They're pretty simple, just straight elastomer stacks and they work well enough for what they are, my brother had a set on his bike back in the day
