Joe Cooke Imperial Petrel

Goldie
Yes she is mine, I should really do a build thread at some point. I do have hundreds of pictures of Ruby. She is just over a year old and has already done thousands of miles. Still a joy to ride as she always will be. The whole experience of a bespoke bike has inspired me to create a brother for Ruby. Charlie will be a fixed gear bike built by me, for me, to commemorate my late father.

Ah ha! I thought that might be your handiwork. Yes, a build thread would be great. Ruby's a new bike of course, but the care and attention to detail that have gone into the build are exactly what retrobiking is all about. I have the issue of CA with the two page photo in there, which I regularly leave around the house in the hope that Mrs G will suggest that I need something similar... :D

I have just bought a Imperial Petrel - Club Sports Frame and Fork Number 0343
To be honest I only bought it for the Brampton headclip headset for my Maclean Featherweight but it is much nicer than I first thought so will probably put it in the loft until I have time to start searching out parts for the rebuild.

Any of you out there know about these frames? I have had a look on Classic Lightweights and read the article in the Boneshaker which has a bit of info on frame numbers
5031 - 1930
6031 - 1933
6269 - 1935
6843 - 1938
I had thought the frame was from the 30's but perhaps it is much earlier, what do you think?

Also if any of you have a spare Headclip Headset hanging about I will still be needing one for the Maclean along with a couple of Headclip stems.

I realise this post is useless without pictures and will be uploading some at the weekend.

Hello. Joe Cooke was my Great Grandfather. I have three of his bikes, a 1929 gents and two tandems. Laurie Weeks had several interviews with my father who as a teenager worked Saturdays for Joe after he lost his only son, Ray, in the war.
