Re:

BBB jockey wheels are a good value, reliable and flexible option. The range of plastic inserts mean they are compatible with lots of mechs. I have them fitted to a few bikes including one with an XT M739 rear mech.

I've also used Tacx jockey wheels, which are a bit more expensive. I've found it a good idea to prise off the seals on the cartridge bearings, fill them with high quality grease, and then refit the seals. It'll make the difference between them working flawlessly for ages and seizing up after the first wet ride.

Told ya.

Those are the best after-market item around. They don't flap around leading to vague shifting.
I know the top centeron shimano jockeys are meant to float but once they get too sloppy, shifting get equally sloppy.

Of course they need to float otherwise they couldn't do as their name implies.

Do the BBB have any float in them, I know Shimano made centeron ball bearing ones but you pay through the nose, or work out which lower models also had them ;-)

How similar are the BBB to Tacx, I'd assumed they came from the same place but I guess not.

I've only used BBB or whatever stock on the mech. The BBB don't float but the shifting was ok. Perhaps wise to wind the b-tension screw in at least half way to increase distance between top jockey and cassette teeth, may aid shifting somewhat.
The floating effect on the top jockey is useful when new-ish but, when worn and too floaty, yes that's a word! then it kinda cocks the shifting up, almost provoking the chain to dance up another cog on cassette, involuntarily.

I received my jockey wheels today, well at least I received 'Some' jockey wheels today. DOn't you just hate it when a sloppy half baked Ebay seller can't even manage to send you the product you ordered.

I ordered 'Shimano Compatible' jockey wheels and received 'SRAM' jockey wheels.

The SRAM are a completely different configuration.

FFS.

Re:

No, there's no float at all. However, the top jockey wheel is narrower than the lower jockey wheel, so the chain can move about on the jockey wheel, which provides a similar effect as the jockey wheel following the chain and floating on the spindle, if you see what I mean.

Re:

I put a apir of blue ano Acor jockeys in the Stx Rc mech I had on my Marin until recently and they shifted perfectly mainly due to the slight float they have.

Personally I wouldn't consider using a non floating top jockey but I hate anything other than perfect shifting.

Re:

I've got BBB jockey wheels on two bicycles and they both shift perfectly. The last set I bought was for a used XT M737 I bought that had very worn original jockey wheels with float. With the original worn jockey wheels I couldn't get the mech to index across the whole 7 speed cassette, I could get either 4 or 5 low gears, or high gears, but not all 7.

I fitted the new BBB jockey wheels, with no float, and bingo, the mech would index properly across the whole mech, so the thin upper jockey wheel that allows the chain to move around a bit obviously does it's thing. This was with a Campagnolo 9 speed chain a Shimano 7 speed cassette and some 9 speed chainrings I bought on offer from On-One, so it's not as though it was an all Shimano 7 speed set-up that might have made things easier. :D

Next time I need some jockeys I will try the BBB ones then :D
