Here is my 1996 GT zaskar, owned since new, with some replacement NOS parts where needed. The concept of the bike is that everything is polished or anodised silver. I call it the mirror bike!

The frame is GT zaskar from 1996, The forks are Marzochi Z1 Bam, stripped and polished, handle bars were polished too, they’re 3ttt downhill. Stem is azonics DH, synchros seatpost and NOS flite titanium saddle. FSA headset.

The v brakes are the very first set that ever arrived at my local bike shop when they were first introduced by shimano with Paul’s component brake levers. Gear shifters are deore xt. I used to ride it with Xtr sti’S but they’re not silver!

Drivetrain is Middleburn Rs3 with middleburn NOS rings, on a hope titanium BB. Ultegra rear mech and cassette with aluminium jockey wheels. Not strictly MTB but we used to use road mechs for either short cage or just for appearance in this case (its polished silver). Compact chainrings and compact cassette to reduce weight.

The wheels are GT Hadley hubs with NOS mavic 517 rims , DT Swiss revolution spokes all round with alloy nipples, radial pattern on the front and 3 cross one side, radial the other on the rear. Tires are panarace duster pro NOS Kevlar bead. This is a super light hand built wheel set.

Even the outer cables are silver!

The spec of this bike is possibly not for the purist but it’s more or less as I used to ride it and restored to absolutely mint condition. I don’t ride the mirror bike as it’s too precious, but I’d did love riding it years ago, so I built the black version as my regular use bike… has a more modern drivetrain, and front hope disk but otherwise it’s very similar… just black!
