I've got a weird idea brewing!

For years I've wanted to build a mid 90's steel Marin with a kona P2 basically because the seat and chainstays and the fork are all straight not tapered and the dropouts are similar.

Now the odd bit I want to remove the brake bosses completely off the frame and fork and have disk tabs added. I've got a set of old xt disc brakes which are mint and have exactly the same finish as m737 xt.

The only thing I'm not sure on is the finish, the frame I'm doing it to is a '96/'97 Team Marin which I was going to strip and nickel plate but now the frame's here I can't bare to strip it the colour is so cool and matches these Citrus Mavics I've had kicking around for years.

Unfortunately the camera hasn't picked up the colour but if you've seen any Mavic citrus rims they're gold with a green tint and the frame is the same.

As there's very little chance of matching the paint what I'm thinking of doing is the rear triangle, fork and stem chrome or pearl white or possibly another contrasting colour any thoughts?

Don't do it if they're TB P2s, apparently they can't take the stress of the disk brakes due to the thinness of the wall and position of the butting. I've read it here so it must be true! I'm not an engineer but you may well want to do some reading up before you break a set of forks and your nose/teeth. I'm sure people that know better than me can advise.

You could always go for disc specific P2.

Ah you see these are the pearls of wisdom I'm looking for, I've got a few pairs of P2's so I'll use some of the standard ones then and as for using the modern disk P2's I don't think the fork to axle length would be right plus the ones I've seen have an angled drop out so wouldn't match and finally I want the disc mounts, I'm a bit obsessive on the details!

I can supply disc tabs, fronts are like the picture below. Rears are to suit the frame.

JeRkY: That's the way I'm leaning.

B3: Can you fit them too? If so how much? and do you have a rear that matches?

Have a word with Mike Snowden if B3 can't fit the tabs - he had a Kona fitted with rear disc mount and the required bracing to the rear stays, they did a gorgeous job, can't remember the name of the guy that did it. There's a thread on it somewhere.

I'd go for a white on the rear triangle and forks to match the decals. Maybe get a stem and bars done in white at the same time (You don't have to use them if they look crap)
