Iv'e crushed the end of my little finger

Just get it chopped off and be done with it. Saves farting around with a half knackered finger.

beware the little finger the little finger is coming to get you!

Seriously though, get well Dan!

You could always do this:

I took the top of my right thumb off with one of those meat slicers you see at the butchers... you know, rotary blade, sliding the bacon backwards and forwards as you go...

10mm of thumb gone, but it grew back
I think I must be an X-man or something

Good luck with whatever you do.

Had a friend try to degrease a motorcycle chain whilst the bike was on the centre stand and in 1st gear running. He went to the hospital shortly after starting to clean and I found most off his little finger in the garage the next day.

Best off getting it chopped and tidied

I know your pain, last week I somehow got my thumb in between a metal post and a sledgehammer, cue a local anaesthetic and 6 stitches in my right thumb... I'm right handed too...
Probably better long term to lop it off, my thumb has nerve damage and is still numb, it may improve with time though, but it still works, as it's your pinky finger though you'll not notice it's gone.
Oh, and steel yourself for when they try to remove the dressing that will have welded itself to your wound... it can smart a little.

It took two years for my thumb to fully heal btw, nerve damage took the longest and its still a bugger in the cold.

Today i crushed the end of my little finger and and the bone in the end is fully fubared into lots and lots of little bits and the skins split and the nails almost off the worst bit is the end is at a weird angle so no riding for a while.

Now the really bad bit iv'e gotta go back Monday to have it redressed and assessed and from what the doc and nurse where saying it looks like they want to take the end of the finger off so will have a little op if they try and save it (i dont want it saved it will look like shit and not work properly) it will take 3 months to heal if they remove it it will take 4 weeks to heal (id rather 4 weeks over 3 months) will get pics up monday when they take the dressing off

ps its still bleeding/leaking after 7hrs aaarrrrrrggggghhhhh
I severed the end of my little finger when I was 2 - well when I say I severed it, that's not quite accurate, I didn't whip out a hatchet and go all yakuza on it's ass, being rather stupid, at that age, I (for that brief part of my life where I was aware, and had some cogence, between birth and this moment) saw no harm in messing around outside the open back door, with my little finger in the gap.

Problem is, family on the inside of the door, were blissfully unaware I'd do such a foolish, whimsical thing, and my older brother was in something of a mood about something so slammed the door.

What I will say, is that the door closing, produced quite a clean cut - which you'd probably not quite expect. That was a turn up for the books, I can tell you.

I can still vividly remember it happening - and I don't recall any pain at the instant it happened - that's not why I started crying. That took a beat, and thought that something was very wrong, with the blood and missing part of my finger. Then came the wailing and gnashing of teeth.

And a long wait in a hospital, in the early 70s on a bank holiday. It was reattached, but from what I've been told, although I don't remember any of it, took a fair amount of recovery and visits.

That was a very clear cut, though, that was stitched back on - I don't know any more details about what was done other than that, although as an adult, as I've grown, the bit that was severed looks proportionally a lot smaller now, than it was then.

Rather uncoincidentally, I do occasionally play the piano (although it's a bit dusty, and needs tuning - as does the piano as well as my playing...), but from what you've said about your injury, you may be better off losing it - unless you've aspirations of being a concert pianist, that is.

And FWIW, I've known people opt for finger amputation, when they've had that condition where tendons shorten in fingers, leaving them unable to straighten them. A chap I knew who had it done (I worked with him daily, at the time) returned to work within a day or two of the op (in fairness, it was his business) and it healed a lot quicker than I thought it would.
