Is it safe to run a road stem on a cross bike that DOES go off road?

Not hardcore off road obviously, but a bit of chalky downhills and roots and stuff.

I would've thought they were pretty strong anyway right?

:?:

well i'd use it. If i had one. Your no heavy weight or some head banger on a bike. So i think it will be fine :D

BITD when I raced cross, I saw many a cross bike with road stems. Generally though, cross circuits were a little less hardcore than MTB XC routes.....

Depends what riding your planning on doing mate. If its light XC stuff, you'll be ok. Hardcore hops and drops, then put a decent stem on, or just use your MTB

What the guy above said...

Depends on the road stem too of course. Plenty of them are the same as MTB stems.

I always remember a bunnyhopping contest with a kestrel MXZ using a road stem.

If they can survive that - they should survive pretty much anything
