To be fair we don't get weather like this every year and that is the main reason we don't have the backup infrastructure in place for when it does hit
Europe is having issues too, with several airports and motorways closed.
We also aren't forced (like most of europe) to carry snow chains/socks or even to fit winter tyres. Loads of people would complain if that was forced upon us but this is getting regular enough to start to become a viable option.
I'd balk at having to pay £400 for winter tyres and would only do so if it was law.
We've had decades of mild wet winters so really there is no compelling evidence that these winters will become regular and nobody want to pay taxes for winter infrastructure that will not get used again for another few decades.
easy rider your right, but we dont even have minor precautions or a game plan
for somebody to write up a game plan on paper wouldnt cost much. sort of like what to do in a fire
a set of guidelines, instead of being headless like we do
People dont follow guidelines anyway cyfa.....years ago it was called common sense  now if we need guidelines for what to do when it is a bit nippy outside,we may also need reminding not to jump in the fire as well........
we had a big dump of snow today(not Canadian big!)and council gritters will not grit the roads. reason? "not scheduled until Tuesday!"
the snowplough drove thru town with the plough up for the same reason.
road outside where i live is a nightmare and still the twits go out in it.
