For Sale IRC 'cruiser' tyres. Skinwall. Now Sold.

It been like that since I started here, if you knew marc he'd be the last to do backdoor deals a very easy going helping retro people out seller.

I can vouch for a dibs post though, pretty sure I saw it. ;-)

Though,
Many times you're the first to post and they have already gone. Not a recent thing.
The only rule on dibs is this
Dibs are non-enforceable and strictly at the sellers discretion
Different sellers want different things.
No worries.

We of course need pictures of the offending bike with these odd sized tyre on them :-)

The thing is sometimes you see something that you desperately need or want and are afraid to waste time posting in the thread, not because you want to cheat anyone out of anything, but simply because you don't want to miss out on it.

I've pm'd an offer before and then posted in the thread afterwards because of this irrational fear of missing out on something I've been specifically hunting for, a feeling we all know only too well, but I did post in the thread eventually, like it makes any difference. And as I said above someone pm'd me about an item I was selling and requested that I keep the deal to myself which I had no problem doing. The thread had been live for quite some time and there had been little interest so I see no harm in that.

The idea that people who get in there first are somehow doing anything wrong baffles me though, it's pretty much a first come first serve system, if someone beats me to the punch, either by dibs in the thread or via pm then the result is exactly the same, they got it and I didn't, snooze you lose and all that, and so I say well played that man.

If anything I suppose you could say that sellers not marking items as 'sold' are really responsible for such ill feeling, even though personally I see no need for any ill feeling whatsoever, it's just stuff. You win some you lose some, life goes on and there's always the next time. I don't know about you but I really don't mind the occasional disappointment as it provides a great baseline measurement against which to contrast the sweet little victories.

Bidding on it as we speak, but if I don't bag it then they may be headed to Peachyville.

That's the proper spirit right there. No messing about, snap up the tyres, then get a suitable bike for them. Hope it's something interesting and we see an original build with a personal touch..

👯‍♀️ 🤓

If it goes my way it's going to be a pre-war British tracker bike, in keeping with this new craze for British klunkeresque builds.

Does back door dealing have some kind of extreme negative connotation I’m unaware of?

To me it implies items being sold without transparency or in the sight of those hoping or attempting to buy.

In this instance I think that fits. Problem? On a commercial site not really. On a fraternal site I would think so.

One opinion. Just as valid or invalid as any other. Politely expressed and explained.

EDIT: just realised there’s a whole page I missed before posting this. Talk about storm in a teacup.

I think we should have some sort of naked ceremony of appeasement symbolising all being laid bare to the brothers and sisters of the retro fraternity. Perhaps concluding with the exchange of solemn vows of visibility and a simple gift of a magnifying glass?

Well it is October.
