I'm an idiot and probabl don't deserve a nice bike...

Some of you wil have read my previous threads regarding my worries over a dodgy clicking noise coming from my Klein's BB area. I checked everything over, replaced cranks and BB and eventually gave up on the frame because it sounded to me like metal fatigue.

Yesterday I took delivery of a GT LTS-3 courtesy of Drapoon on this very forum, and decided to build it up tonight. When taking the cranks off the Klein I noticed the clicking noise was still there. Upon closer inspection I noticed that the chainring bolts were loose and the clicking noise happened when I flexed the chainring. The weird thing was that the noise was present on another set of cranks I tried. I dug the other set out and checked the chainring bolts - some were loose and causing a clicking noise.

Yes, I am indeed a complete idiot, but at least I'm honest about it. Next time you hear a noise like that, check your chainring bolts. It might save you buying another frame!

Now I have two sweet frames that I can use to build two nice bikes. The only change to the LTS now will probably the addition of a front disc brake.

Time to shop for some lightweight components for the Klein!

Well, you're not alone.

When I picked up our new car last year, I took it back after 5 miles moaning about a rattling sound from the dash somewhere. Suffice to say they couldn't find anything and after another 10 miles on the way home feeling bad that my brand new toy wasbroken before I even started, I realised it was the keyring's split ring jangling on the steering column.



Quite glad they didn't find that to be honest.

Didn't stop the head rest clips falling off by the time I got home though. Mmm, little French cars, don't you love that bits fall off them - it's part of their charm. :roll:

And how many of your friends and neighbours on here suggested you check the chainring bolts? Did I suggest you check the chainring bolts? Have I checked my own chainring bolts recently? Errr, well, errr, oh.

You wanted another bike, but couldnt justify it to yourself. So, you needed an excuse to ALLOW yourself to buy a bike.

Umm well, ermm yeah...

No I really did think the Klein was broken and was quite gutted about it.

I can't actually afford a new bike really, I don't have an adundance of space for one, and probably won't use it. Of course that won't stop me building one!
