Ideas for rides near Buxton

We are taking the camper to the Buxton area for the Bank holiday weekend and staying near the end of the Tissington Trail.

Any idea for interesting rides near there? - we've done the Tissington and High Peaks trails in the past and the Manifold valley. Don't mind a mix of tracks and roads.

I'll have my Cross bike with narrow knobbly tyres and my OH will have his hybrid flat bar bike with cross type tyres.

Any fresh ideas appreciated.

Buxton isn't that great for riding, particularly the side you're on. There's a reasonable loop that goes through Chelmorton, Priestcliffe, Millers Dale, Wormhill and back through Buxton - haven't done it for ages but PM me if you're interested and I'll dig out the map and try to remember it.

There's also an okay loop out from Buxton to Whaley Bridge - again can do you directions if you're interested.

Alternatively, drive ten miles north and you'll be in Hayfield...

A quick blast over snake pass(a good tarmac climb followed by an enjoyable descent )leads to some top dark peak riding :D

Fiddle the Cat

On Sunday Max and I rode away from the Cat and Fiddle pub towards Macclesfield Forest - great views with quite rocky descents in places ('The Beast' if I'm not mistaken...) - probably a tad too much for a cross bike mind. We then looped back mainly on the road to the pub to dine handsomely on home made Steak and Ale pie - highly recommended!
