Well, if you were second choice that's good. Very often, the first choice doesn't work out.

I hope you're right Chris, just found out i'm 2nd choice again for this other job.... BOOOOOOOO!

I had 2 rounds of 3hour interviews with this company too, they went with the guy with more experience. Interviews are so demanding these days, the 2nd stage interview was really about me and my personality and how i will fit into the "team".

Anyone know of any Mech Eng or Project Eng jobs going in NW area :D

if you are still in a job and 2nd choice, its not so bad.

When redundancy was imminent, I applied for 63 jobs and only got 2 replies, no interviews .

My current commute is walking down the driveway and opening the car door, taking a deep breath (inhaling the car's smell of the day) and I'm at work.

A couple of friends have got me interviews but my thousand yard stare and general lack of interest in letting another company go through a downsizing exercise and bunging me out tends to show through....

good luck though! :D

Don't know how you manage on the Taxi's it must be hard going. I'd applied for countless jobs too, trouble is the types of jobs i've got experience for are generally in Aberdeen or down south so i've not had any interviews at all until these two. One thing I was told once sticks in my mind and it may be why I do well in interviews. "If you've got an interview then you've already got the job, now you've just got to talk yourself out of that job in the interview"

Arrghhh what to do!

Been for an interview this morning, the agency called me later on to say he's managed to arrange another interview for Friday, and then he calls back a couple of hours later to say the first company have offered me the job and start on Tuesday. I'll probably still go to the other interview as it's more Engineering than this one and the agency is keen fo me to go as he thinks it may be a better position for me BUT just had email off the company that I started this thread about in February and they said they are re-advertising the position and want to interview me on Wednesday, that's after the start date of the other job! What to do! This one is much more money and a much better position with the prospects of promotion, travelling and much more support to become charted.

All three jobs are very close, all within 6miles. One is a definite, other two are probables with one much more desirable. I never expected this when I woe up this morning in my usual no job grump.

Keep your options open, and go for all the interviews you can.

Even if after the start date of a job you might take - there's nothing wrong with that and prior engagements.

Thanks Neil. Think I'll call them this morning to see what I can do about the interview date, and ask why the position has become available again after 3 months.

Ask for an after hours interview most decent companies will do one if requested, they understand the secrecy of poaching. Go for the job you will be most happy in - otherwise you'll just get bored and want to move on soon anyway.

Thanks Ken. I spoke to the secretary this morning and it turns out the guy left because the job wasn't what he expected and they "mutually" decided it was best, so you could interoperate that in many different ways.

I've arranged to have it first thing on Wed morning, as it so happens I do have a dentists appointment, so i'll just show the other company my appointment card.

I'm still in two minds though, it strikes me if you get on with this guy you will go far but if you don't then you'll get pushed out. He started this new division of the branch of this huge international company, he heads it alone with a workforce of 20odd and it's doing very, he is very knowledgeable and respected within the company and will be working very closely with him, almost like his right hand man so to speak. Opportunities to travel to the US too.

Having been out of work for so long i'm chuffed to bits I have been offered that other job and I don't want to loose it by trying to get a better job, but the trouble with Engineering you really do get stuck in a rut if you go and work in one field and that position is quite commercial which I don't want to go down. That has been half my battle while looking for work because with my experience there aren't many positions in this area.
