it appears to be below the Olympic model which have always thought of as the base...but then am certainly no Mercian expert...

I had better explain better.
I was on holiday on Crete and I saw the bike for sale on the bay ,back in the UK.
It was a local to home listing .
Basic Mercain model . It might be a Campionissimo
1970s kit 27x 1 1/4 wheels and a new Brooks Swift saddle. I was on the look out for parts for another rebuild and this fitted nicely. Frame way to small for me once stripped I shall move it on .
