I have been done! Damaged Cook’s Quality Products

After the ‘have I been done’ post, this time it’s certain I have been done.
My Wicked Fat arrived with CQP cranks in ‘alright’ visual condition. Then I rode it... and they wobbled.

NDS has been over tightened, a washer put on the bolt to allow it to be tightened over the end of the spindle, then when that got too sloppy, a piece of shim steel (steel... why not an aluminum coke can....? Oh why...?) and now the NDS is officially buggered.

Drive side however, that’s alright.

What to do? Some of the value of the bike was in the parts - those cranks being a significant chunk. I’m trying to chase the seller on eBay to give me a partial refund but I don’t see much happening. To recoup some of the outlay, is the DS crank worth selling? If so, any ideas on value? Do I just bing them as a pair on eBay with lots of words and pictures to make sure I don’t ‘do’ someone as I was ‘done’ myself? I’m about 150 quid down on my plans to buy / sell / swap my way into the build I’m looking to end up with by my sums.

Any advice on value appreciated!

Re:

More pics. The same ‘open minded individual’ used the wrong crank bolts on both sides so there’s a bit of damage to the outside / small end of the DS taper but it fits up to the spindle as it should and is solid when tightened with a flat bolt...
The NDS is completely crocked.

They’re also dirty but they’ll clean up alright and polish a bit I reckon.

Start by rejecting the bike and asking for refund. Then negotiate back from there. Or get all of your money back.

Personally i think the price you paid was very good for a full bike, you could pay close to that for the frame, the parts on the bike if sold would make half of that back so you got the frame even cheaper. Obviously if you bought the bike to break and sell in parts to make a profit then it will eat into it as you say, but you would still be in profit with whats left.

If you had an issue with the bike you merely open a case with ebay as item not as described. You can ask for a partial refund but the seller doesn't have to accommodate you. Easier to let ebay sort it to avoid stress. If ebay agree with your concerns then it gets sent back at his expense and you get your money back. Its all automated so you don't have to do anything apart from wait for the refund.
