I can use a knife but I'm clueless on forks. Help?

The thinking behind the directionality of the disc is that when braking force is applied to a disc ,that is oriented the way yours is, there is a possibility that the force acting on the disc could make the disc collapse inwards as the rotation is stopped by the brake. Whether this is possible I have not seen any disc that has had such a fate.

2 options : either take it off and check the side that's now against the hub or take the bike to a shop and ask them what they think about it.

I checked the arrows on my Copperhead's discs, and those are mounted the right way. In my case the arrows were on the spokes, very close to the hub.

And here is an example of why I'm so concerned about your disc, as well as several people who also mention which way the spokes should be facing.

Yeah I read that thread before. I'll do more investigation just to make sure.

On the OP about forks I've done some first ever tinkering tonight - emptying air chambers, playing with preload and rebound. It's starting to make sense.
