How much is a frame respray?

Just to confirm, that is a traditional respray and not a powder coat isn't it?

Trust me, you've seen loads.

Most MTB frames are powder Coated.

All of the major manufacturers bikes will be powder coated, you'll only get enamel on custom stuff these days.

'tis indeed enanmel, not the most hard wearing finish but it is very nice in the flesh

You will find that powdercoat won't be quite so supersmooth as wet paint, and slightly less glossy.

But when built up and more than an inspection in the light kind of thing, it looks fine. As said, will stay this way for much longer too.

another white kona from argos here - got this back about 2 weeks ago. think it was about 160 in total, including couriers and decals... expensive, yes, but the finish is beautiful and they were great to deal with.
we also rang bob jackson as they were cheaper but the waiting list was huge apparently.

thanks guys - its actually my GF's bike! think shes after silver or black for the bars etc - think its best to keep the big bits plainer maybe? ive made a thread for it here and will keep updating it

Basically the UK is behind the US on this, as all of the specialist cycle painters here do enamel only, which looks superb and is very delicate. As far as I am aware, Bob Jackson Cycles offer the best value.

Powdercoating is potentially just as good a finish, and a whole lot tougher, but in most cases in the UK you're dealing with a commercial painter 99% of whose work is coating industrial equipment at minimal cost and without any huge need for the end product to look fantastic. Hence it's cheap, hence they don't take as much care shot blasting your frame as a cycle painter would, hence the end product doesn't look as smooth as you might want. The only powdercoater I'm aware of that claims a cycle specialism is Windridge, but they're not cheap

But on the other hand go to the US and you can see some proper powdercoating, such as this frame of Rody's and the Cloud 9, both painted by Spectrum. It's pretty clever work that though, and I doubt if it's cheap!
