How long do you plan on riding a bicycle?

Re:

Wifes 70 and I have a year to go and we still ride the hills of the yorkshire dales on the tandem. Up to 150 miles total some weeks. Its sitting down and watching the tv that kills you off.One of our rides starts with a 1000ft climb over two miles.I really dont fancy ending up in an old folks home.If the lights go out on one of the climbs that will do for me. Might not please the wife though. She will be on the back.

Well i'm slowly getting back into so i don't plan on stopping for at least another 50+ years as i'll only be 99 then and the idea of poping my clogs while out on a ride has got to be the best way to go imvho ;) ..

Re:

I know a 63 yr old roadie who recently competed in the Vancouver to Whistler Mntn Grand Fondo (130 kms of mountain roads), completyeing the course in just under four hours (one of the top, over 40 times) ...

And not too many years ago, I summited a local 3000 meter high peak (mt. Joffre) with a 76 year old gentleman (granted he's a world famous rock climber/mountaineer).

Stay in shape, stay in one piece ... and keep on keepin on till the very end!

Best post ever on Retrobike :D Long may your rides continue in good health.

I don't ride as much as I should but its a great hobby which I doubt I'd ever give up.
Just need to get out there more.

I changed mine a bit due to not wanting to sound depressive but i think its important so ill put it back

Bottom line is i have Achilles tendinitis from cycling and theres no other reason :?
Cause- I suspect about 10 years of being clipped in in shoes that were possibly not the best of fits(Cannondale spd)
No warming up or cooling down(i didnt know i had to), just morning jump on bike and off for the day most days averaging 40 miles or so. Shop 2 mins up the road etc etc never off the blooming thing.

So if you want to keep cycling then i recommend that you do things properly and wear the correctly fitting cycling shoes, some stretching exercises afore and after and above all dont over do it.
