How do you strip, polish & finish an aluminum frame?

I'm toying with stripping and polishing an aluminum frame to get that cool shiny look, but have no idea what type of stripper and polish to use. Also wondering how to protect the finished product to maintain the polished look (clear coat?).

I checked the wiki and tried to search the site to no avail. Any help would be much appreicated. Applogies in advance to the mods if I posted this in the wrong area of the forum.
