Devout Dirtbag
Hi,

Just won the auction for a Kona Hot on eBay and hoping to take delivery later next week.

Outside of knowing that its a hand built steel frame and sat near the top of the Kona range at the time, I'm fairly clueless about them. Information seems to be a little scarce online, particularly for the early ones.

Has anyone got any general information on them? General specifications, measurements, reviews, thoughts, etc..?

I'm undecided on what direction the build will take, but likely to remain either to spec or at least true to the year.

Here's a link to the bike on ebay

Thanks for the link - some interesting reading to say the least.

Seems as though a lot of the cache of the Hot is based on legend and folklore as the messages seem a little inconsistent.

Looking forward to having a good look at the frame and tubing to see what it is all like. From the eBay pictures the colour looks like a plain black, so hardly an extravagent custom feature. It does however mean that I can get it repainted any colour I like without having to worry about keeping true to original design/spec!

Thanks also for the specs and the picture!

Interestingly enough, I had a set of old Marzocchi XCR's on my Hahanna which I threw away back in about 03/04 before I knew any better. In my defence they were shot to pieces!

I would guess from the decals that this is a 1994 bike, with lots of original stuff there. It is definitely a genuine Hot, you can tell that from the TET stamp on the bb shell (which the seller posted into the listing at my suggestion incidentally!)

Although the other thread contains some questions about the Altitude Hots, I have never heard any criticism of the Teesdale ones. Tom Teesdale seems quite approachable and incidentally who better to repaint your frame? His prices are fairly reasonable, and if nothing else I feel sure he could advise you about the original specification, where to go in the US to source repro decals etc. He is here http://www.tetcycles.com/index.html and the specs for the 1994 Hot are here http://www.bikepedia.com/QuickBike/Bike ... &Type=bike
