Hope RS Mono - are they a road specific hub...??

I've got a pair of the mono/pro3 hubs. From the front they look identical to an mtb hub, even taking the various axle adapters.

Similar story for the rear, the only difference is the spacer which is set for 130mm but easily solved with a purchase of a 135mm adapter.

Mine are the 32h version, was saving them for a special non-disc wheel build.

Hasn't happened yet, but very tempted to place them (with black spokes) to a nos set of 717 rims. Nothing to fit them too, but that would make a lovely set of wheels.

Ishaw - them there Pro3 have the loudest free hub in the known universe. You can hear them on Venus. Def vol 11.

That's a very sorted Specialised....nicely spec'd for your part of the country. Building back to original spec is a fun activity, but having the right bits on a frame for the setting is a Very Good Thing.

And thanks to all, I will not worry too much about any of it, from what you have said! The freehub on these is exceptionally noisy too, in a good way. Love that sound! And really think I don't need the bell I put on it because of it...

Rims are XM719's. So not retro at all, then!

Both 32H, front laced radially, or whatever you call it.

modern road hubs are strong than old retro hub, as are most similar road part nowadays
The mono (originally) was not road specific, it was for both, the mono name was used to say 'not disc'.
The RS was targeted to the road user as no other user would use rim brakes.
But sold for all uses by CRC etc.

The Mono RS was originally designed for road bikes, hence the axles and spoke count, they also had two different versions, the 18, 20 and 24 spoke version and the 28, 32 and 36 spoke version. The 28, 32 and 36 versions were designed NOT to be laced radially, however hope thickened the flanges on later versions to accomadate this.

Hope shells themselves are pretty tough and should be fine offroad
