finally got round to ordering replacement pads for my hope mini brakes (note they are the mini, not the mono mini)

the issue i have is with th e bar that holds the pads in place - they both seem to be seized. the front one has rounded off too.

i cant afford new brakes so can anyone suggest what i can do?

put a picture up 8) i can't think what caliper you have  i have pretty much every hope brake you can get in the cave too

Couple of options

1 : get some good grips on the other end of the pin and unscrew .
2 : split the caliper and put the pin in a vice and unscrew
3 : drill it out with a good quality drill bit , hss at the least and use plenty of cutting fluid and a nice low speed . Once the head is drilled the pin should push out , bear in mind the hole is a countersunk so careful not to drill too far . Clean up with a bottoming tap , looks like m3 but don't quote me

Question whether it needs a bleed or not and if so would it be worthwhile stripping the caliper and giving it a good clean while your at it .

Cheers. I'll try turning it from the wrong end tomorrow so they can soak with penol overnight. If i do need to split them are there any seals i need to replace? Is it literally a case of undoing the bolts?

Pretty sure it is just a small O ring , if you really want to take it apart I can have a look at a spare caliper I have and yep , just the 2 bolts on the back side .

If its part 11,and you have to drill it out,it can be replaced with a simple split pin.

I have a spare set,but one of the pistons is refusing to come out,it looks pretty chewed :( .If i can get the bugger out i can fit their replacement plastic versions.

thanks for that andi. and dyna, it is indeed no 11.

cheers guys. i'll have a bash today if the hangover subsides

sorted it now. plenty of penetrating oil and a good 2.5mm allen key sorted the rear no problrm.

the front was well and truly rounded so i used mole grips and turned it from the other end. worked a treat

i now have brakes again and the front is no longer making my fork feel like its bushes have gone. :D
