now them 3 bikes are the holy grail of mountain biking.

This is purely a matter of taste. Many would agree, given the price of the early Breezed sold last year. But I bet many on this site would disagree with you.

The simple truth is they made the c26 and give it to the selected few to test and ride and then found all the faults and said we will make no more.

Very much false. Herting designed the frame to not only be light and strong, but to be commercially viable. With the numbers given to Yeti from Easton, on paper it appeared the carbon frames would be easier to make than the steel ones. Herting, Parker & Co. had every intent to develop the C-26 into a production frame. It appears in the 1989 brochure and one was sold to a customer.

It is true the C-26 project could be called a disaster, but that's likely because it had no time to develop. Before they sought after stronger glues that were easier to work with, Easton developed an aluminum tubeset that ended up being the direction Yeti went.

So basically A.R.C. made C-26 redundant ?

Yes. The story is a popular one, so I'll paraphrase: Yeti brought the carbon bikes to worlds, but by that time the difficulty involved making them was well-known and Parker hated them. Easton delivered the first batch of alu tubes to California while Herting & Parker were in Durango. Linda Parker called up John and told him FTW had made a frame from them, and Parker basically told FTW to pack his bags and not be there when they got back from Durango.

Zap came along on the return trip, and when he saw the welded ARC frame, he told Parker he was a genius, etc., and Parker forgave FTW. At that point they focused all their development time on the ARC and shelved the C-26.
