non-fixie
Senior Retro Guru
While I promised not to buy any more bikes, when this came into view my knees buckled. I did ask mrs non-fixie's permission, as it would be for her.
Luckily she knows pretty when she sees it.
A rare Gitane mixte, called the Super Evry, I believe. I've only seen it mentioned in the 1975 French sales brochure. The standard Evry is, well, standard: non-descript tubing, stamped dropouts, etc. but the Super Evry has Reynolds 531 butted frame tubes, forks and stays, Huret forged dropouts and fork ends and nicer parts, such as MAFAC Competition brakes. And a lovely and versatile Stronglight 99 crank set.
As bought and pictured by the friend who picked it up for me:
I have already made a few adjustments: a new Brooks B17s Imperial on a Campag pillar to replace the plastic saddle and steel pin, a Maillard freewheel with a bit more range and a smaller inner chain ring. And a pair of nice Grand Bois tyres.
A first shakedown ride went well:
Next up will be changing the bars, as these offer very little in terms of long distance comfort.
