Hi from Colchester UK

Found the forum on google looking for details about a nice Raleigh Dune Dancer I am restoring.

Riding a road biker for last few years. But back in the 90's loved MTB, had a Raleigh Yukon and Muddy Fox. Used to lust after Marins.

I'm in Colchester, well Rowhedge. Born here.
I've got Raleighs- '88 Mirage '89 Montage, '90 Moonrun, '91 Summit. Got a few other makes too, no Marins though, sorry 'bout that.
You can pm me (after you've posted a while- site rules) if you need advice or spares. Glad to help.I
Welcome to the wild and wacky world of Retrobike.

After that first line i was waiting for the votes from the UK Jury.

Welcome. Katie Boyle says Hi.

I have similar, but 46, 36,and 24t. Same era etc., and very mild Biopace. LX.from c '92. Not exactly desperate to sell, but will think about it. Try an ad in the Wanted section, there are probably hundreds hanging on people's sheds just waiting for a new home.

Welcome.

Know it well, had a few run-ins with the Greenstead skins back in the early 80's

Colchester born and bred here too. Lived in and around Colchester before moving away 8 years ago.
Back in the day, used to ride Chitts Hill, Friday woods, High woods, Wivenhoe trail.... and all the in-between sections too. North dump for the BMX track and the tracks the moto riders had made. Rode on Sundays with the Iceni Rex crew.
Shops usedto be W E Wass for Raleigh, Anglian cycles for Kona, but we all hung out at Get Pedallin as Colin and his dad sold the 'cool' stuff like Alpinestars and Marin.

Them were the days!

Cheers

I remember Wass's with it's of affection, Boy. I'm fairly ancient, and they were trading as far back as when I was little. Well before, I reckon. Bought all sorts of things there, including my air rifle ammo. The family are still running a fishing tackle shop in Copford.
We've got a Rowhedge trail as well now, best route into town and usable all year too. No more scraping 15lbs of clay off your bike, bliss!

Can remember Wass's being the obligatory Saturday town centre stop off.... And Kathleen's kitchen next door too!
Colchester Cycles on St. John's Street sold Peugeot/Dawes/Kirk/ Grisley if I remember correctly.... The display case at the front had all boutique stuff in.
That's good that they've finally done the Rowhedge trail. About 10 years ago.... Used to string together a route from Hilly fields, along Grimes Dyke to Layer woods. Through to Friday woods and cross the Mersea road to Donyland woods, out at Rowhedge, pick the trail up at the Anchor to the Hythe, cross the bridge and back down the other side on the Wivenhoe trail. Climb up to the quarry, back along the top, and down back onto the Wivenhoe trail at the yacht club. From here, straight run back into Colchester town centre via University and Castle park. Climb North hill and cross at the hole in the wall bridge. Finish with Several pints of Adnams at the Hospital arms.

Maybe arrange a ride when I'm back in Colchester at some point?

Cheers.
