HG70 vs HG90 cassettes

Yep (not so) shiny ones are HG70, shinier/chrome are HG90. The problem is to recognize them when you don´t have a HG90 to compare as the HG70 alone can already look quite glistening.

Another hint can be the lockring sticker: On the HG90 it just says "HG Hyperglide" whereas on the HG 70 it has the "CS-HG70" denominator printed on. Of course lockrings can easily be swapped and most used ones have the sticker missing anyway.

Different background (well, underground in fact) color on the lockring: silver for HG70, gold for HG90.

I’ve all of these what I’m trying to identify..

I can instantly recognise the hg90’s but struggling to identify this? It came off an XT M732 hubbed wheelset that I’m sure was on from new..

I have some here as well, no idea how to tell them apart! Any help appreciated.
Also need 2x locking rings for 12t.

There's an obvious difference in the way the sprockets are held together with those three shown in the 2nd pic. The top has Allen screws whilst the bottom two use hex bolts. I assumed that HG90 used the former and HG70 the latter but nothing to base that on other than distant fuzzy recollection.

Having had both HG70 & HG90 cassettes recently, I can confidently say they are both assembled with the same kind of hex bolts. The top pic looks like it may be some kind of other cassette, or may have had the bolt heads sheared off somehow (maybe some extreme chainsuck into the spokes). Looking at the matte silver finish, I would guess the bottom 2 cassettes are HG70, but hard to tell going off of pics & years of possible wear on the cassette.

Bolts can be changed, as well as lockrings, so these are mere indicators. I´ve had HG90s with hex and allen bolts. IMHO the only surefire way to differentiate is the surface treatment of the sprockets. Shiny chrome=HG90, not quite so shiny but still shiny=HG70.
