I know this is more of a road thing, but I thought it might get more attention here. I have no commercial link to the running of this event, I just think it deserves a plug.
The velodrome at Herne Hill in South London has been on it's financial uppers for a while and was threatened with closure a while back, when the freeholder wanted to develop the site and public funding started going to a new cycling centre for the Olympics.
The good friday meeting is the biggest event of the year for herne hill, often attractinbg pro and olympic riders. It's a great day out. You can take a picnic and relax with a glass of wine whilst you watch the riders strain every sinew.
