Help with modern suspension thing!!!

How do I remove this shock?

The threaded part is sticking out a bit more on the other side, so is it just a case of knocking it through. I put the bolt back in and gave it a medium sized tap but it didn't move. I don't want to hit it any harder until I know thats how its suposed to come apart.

Any advice welcomed.

shock is a fox rp something

Yup its a fox RP2 shock on a Marin Attack Trail 2004 or 05. I got given it by one of my full sus riding friends who thinks I need to stop riding around on old hardtails with rim brakes. He said I didn't know what I was missing and gave me his well used old (to him) Marin frame and forks lol. As he was kind enough to donate it to me I thought I'd re-build it this winter and give the whole full sus thing a go.

I'll get my self a sacraficial bolt some Plus Gas and maybe a bit of heat and give it a good tap. Cheers.

Ok cool. I looked at some of that at the weekend and thought I ought to buy some but didnt. Doh!!! Only a 20 minute walk to get some though!!!

If its working, i'd leave it alone. Try phoning importers, ATB?? and see if they have any tips. It does just look like it needs a bigger hammer though

You need to take the shock out of the frame before removing the fitting hardware.

If it's stubborn - you'll need to prise the metal plates on the frame slightly apart.

The trick is to remove the easiest bit first. and then use the leverage available when it's out, to get the last part off.

When you've got the shock in your hand, it's just a question of
1) making sure you know where to get replacement hardware
2) Monkey wrench, flat screwdriver and vice.

While you're at it, check the DU insert isn't worn. The BETD upgrade kit is worth looking at if it is.
