I've spent a couple of hours trying to get a pedal out of a 09 XT crank (chainside).

Have left it in the workshop after liberally spraying GT85 around both ends of the threadhole.

I'm going to try putting it in boiling water tomorrow and then giving it a bash, but I get the feeling this will be a toughy.

It's come from a bike someone else assembled.

Any tips?

8) yes I am - sadly.... if only it was that simple. The chain side is back to front so to loosen I am try to turn the pedal thread clockwise.

No.

RH pedal, RH thread. So to loosen anticlockwise... The chainring side is 'normal' threads.

The chainside is on the right and is the right way threaded, clockwise tightens. The none chainside is in the left and is lefthand threaded, clockwise loosens. That's how I remember it.

Stuck pedals I've removed:
Clamp pedal bolt?!? where spanner would go with 2 large allen keys in the jaws of the vice. Use long bar over crank arm to get leverage. Easier on none chainring side.

Failing that, destroy pedal.

Turn it the right way'll be a start...

Position crank at 5pm, and use the freewheel to help against rotation.

doh - this problem has addled my brain. I think I've been trying both directions. I will have to strip the pedal and use the paint stripping heat gun on the pedal spindle.

:?

stuck pedal

yes,get some heat on it!! you cant really hurt it(although any paintwork may bubble off). corrodeing alloy powders and gets grippy automatically so deploy steady,firm blows until it loosens.
forward=in
back=out
regardless of which side your on.
good luck,ive a bb to do soon. :lol:
