Help Please- Identifying Battaglin Model

Dirt Disciple
Hi;

I am considering buying a Battaglin and have not been able to pin down the model or year- the seller is not well informed- he knows he overpaid for it when he bought it, and now wants rid of it. :) The Columbus sticker is mostly gone, but I am hoping it says SLX :)

1) Any thoughts on model and year from the pics?
2) Value- he is asking $350USD
3) Thoughts on how to make it so that a fat old git like me can make it up the numerous hills around Northern California - there is a 3000 ft climb out my back door. Would a compact crank look really out of place?

Thanks for your thoughts

Battaglin

If it is SL or SLX tubing then the seat post will be 27.2
the frames with cheaper tubing were 26.8
Looks like a top of the range ones as it has a cast Cinelli b/bracket.
Has it been re-sprayed ??? as it seems a little 'boring' in the colour dept for a Battaglin.
probably mid 80's onwards.

Thank you for your help! It is 27.2 so i suspect it is SL, which is what my LBS thought- the Columbus sticker is mostly scraped off.

I think it has been resprayed. The owner only wanted $200 USD for it and when i to the LBS to pull the Stronglight headset, they noticed a small crack under the headtube. :cry:
Combined with the fact that it did not come with the original fork makes me think it has been crashed. Going to send it to have the paint stripped to confirm if the frame is baffed, if not i will have it repainted in a sexier more appropriate color. Battaglin USA thought it was 1990 to 93.

Still trying to locate a Battaglin chrome fork with a steerer at least 20 cm long.

Thanks again for your assistance.
