Hi
I have just acquired a bike with an STX chainset circa 1995, the cranks and inner/middle rings are fine but the outer ring is worn badly. I was going to live with it because it is that shiny nickel colour and it rides OK if you take it gently. But if I put power through the cranks it randomly throws the chain, which has resulted in some embarrassing near-fail moments and bashed knees, so I need a new one.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I have worked out that I need a five-arm, 42t 94 BCD outer chainring.
I have found a couple of TA chainrings online that might fit but they seem mighty expensive. Any ideas where I can get something more affordable? Is there a shop that does NOS or is it just a case of waiting until some old stuff comes up on eBay? If so I might have to buy knee pads
At the moment I'm considering using a cheap modern chainset but I don't really want to do that as it will spoil the look of the bike.
Any advice welcome...
