Hi guys,
I have a lovely Trek Single Track which I am renovating.
It looks identical to the one 34Henry3w did a fantastic thread on in 2010 on this forum.
His was a 1994 930 model.
Mine is 1994 or later as it has the alloy chainguard plate held on with two allen bolts to rear right hand chainstay which from reading manuals on here says that this was introduced in 1994.
My pal who sold me the bike says he purchased it second hand in mid 90's and remembers that the owner said it was a couple years old and he had had it repainted. This explains why I cannot for the life of me find a one on bikebedia or vintagetrek website in blue (bit darker than retrobike logo) with cream decals. I think the decals are newer ones from a later 90's singletrack as it also says 'XC' in yellow between 'single' and 'track'.
My pal also remembers that he thinks it was a '970' model. (the model type decal on seat tube is missing).
Looking at spec list this would all add up with code numbers on mechs and cranks listed as around 1995.
Only other clue is that on left hand side of seat tube the frame has a welded on pipe where the rear brake cable passes through? This is not present on the one in the thread mentioned above and may be indication that this is the higher 970 model????
Are there any bike detectives out there who can shed a definitive light on this mystery!
To summarise....
Bike almost identical to thread mentioned above
Pal says it cant be any older than 1994 and had been repainted when he got it in later 1990's and says the number 970 rings a bell
It has anti chainsuck plate on it which was introduced in 1994 according to Trek brochure.
Cant seem to get hit with frame numbers
Rear brake cable pipe welded on headtube at left of seattube
Thanks guys
Andy
