Got some nice xt v brakes here.

Thanks THM, but it's a n '88 bike with a U brake rear, so determined to keep the canti's up front for authenticity. Although that could all change tomorrow....

I'll look through my stems and see if theres a nice rollered one or at least one you can use a cable hanger with

Thanks Big Cheese! I'm quietly confident I'll get it sorted this morning, after a decent breakfast and a proper coffee....

Re:

Thread a off-cut from a gear cable first as an initial guide for the outer; it will flex more.

Re:

Erm.....

Well, I went out full of hope but nothing was working, so in a hissy fit I decided to go and get another cable hanger or stem or SOMETHING from my local bike recycling place that I hadn't actually been to for ages as I had moved well out of the area until recently....

And came back with a saddle, a blue chainring in the right BCD, a set of amazing rigid forks, yet to be ID'ed, and a little Rock Hopper frame....

And no brake hanger. So I've just refitted the original and be done with it. Brake works which is all I need it to do!

Thanks though for all the suggestions, in time I may tinker with it again when I've more patience.
