HELP all you Merlin freaks out there.

So. Stripped my 1992 Merlin What-turns-out-to-be-a-Mountain for its 10-yr rebuild. The canti brake bosses were the last to go. One snapped off so I drilled and tapped the hole...but what's this??? The M8 X 1.25 tap isn't right! Could it be 5/16" UNC(it's American after all)? Anyone know? And where would I get a pair of bosses to fit (pref Ti)?

Yes, thanks, but the guy does Al too. Then I started to look further afield...

Tried a M8 X 1.25 Ti boss today from benandemu and it definitely won't fit - only goes half-way in.

My Merlin has M10x1.5 boss threads, and gave the same symptoms when I tried to fit an M10x1.25 boss from my Fisher.

So, I think you might need an M8x1.5 threaded boss for yours.

Yeah, I thought that, too, so I went to my (thankfully very local) BRILLIANT tool/engineering supply store, Derbyshire's, and guess what....M8 X 1.5 don't exist!!. That's when I realised - Yanks, stuck in the dark ages of Imperial measurement....5/16"? Duh. :roll:
