Hi

Does anyone out there have, or can point me in the direction of, a headset for a 1954 Claude Butler Jubilee?

Many thanks

Hey man, any idea if it's a clip headset with integrated bearing cups in the head tube, or conventional threaded headset?

If it's a clip headset you'll have to trawl eBay and wait for one to turn up at a not too silly price - they're expensive.

If it's a threaded one you've got a couple of options...

1) Have a read on this site for headsets in the classic components section: http://www.classiclightweights.co.uk/components.html

2) Scavenge a 'roadster' type headset off an old Raleigh/BSA/Triumph etc which should fit - eBay is a good place for this.

3) Measure the diameter of the crown race. It should be 26.4mm or 27.0mm. Assuming the headtube takes pressed in cups, you can use a modern threaded headset with the same diameter race and it should go on. The only thing which might not be right is the stack height, so don't get one with a 'low' stack because it might be a bit too short for the old frame. Get something with a middle of the range stack height and basically be prepared to have to buy a second one if it's not quite right, because it's a difficult thing to measure.

Re:

I would not expect a headclip in 1954.
All Raleigh makes that had the Raleigh octagonal headset were 26 threads per inch, you will have 24 TPI.
