What's the late 90s steel frame of choice?

This is an interesting question that I have been thinking about too. It certainly seems to be as Thias suggests, that Ali and Full Suss were in demand and steel took a back seat. I am more a fan of late 80's, very early 90's bikes, but, I do have one late 90's steel bike - a '98 GT Bravado that was made from Reynolds 631 and has v brakes, which I really like. I'm interested to see any other suggestionsView attachment 1004182
I wonder how your Bravado would compare to my '92 Bravado (True Temper GTX Ultra III tubing) to ride?

Triple triangle adds weight and complexity, and stiffness you might not be after if you don't want aluminium.

Looks great. Parallel seat stays and down tube👌

I'll do a proper build thread when I get round to it with decent photos, only just unboxed. I used to put my builds on you tube but have found the hassle of recording takes away the zen benefits.

It's stunning if I may so myself. Super pleased it has the proper Raleigh headtube badge, not a fan of the RSP effort.

I may cry a bit when I attach the front mech and it marks the paint.

Agreed, but I still like it.

The fillet brazed 853 GT psyclone is a beautiful late 90s frame, but unlikely to be under£200.

GT also had some astonishing paint finishes in the early 90s that have lasted well, but Twirly for OP

Looks like he's got a good'un.
Quality raleigh mtbs don't command high prices, so offer excellent value.
