Has anyone ever painted skis?

As a teenager I always fancied customising my downhill skis with a hot-rod flame job or something.

Now last weekend the idea has come back to haunt me while staring at the front of my xc skis for seven hours.

I think I would lightly sandpaper the varnish to allow the (spray can) paint to grip, then maybe apply some heavy-duty clear coat on top of it

Maybe I will go for a gator linear fade :-)

Am I foolish to want to try this?

Give it a go. Flame paint jobs are sweet!!!! I had a club mate do my old aero helmet, quick paint job and lacquer over. Jobs a good-un

Your post reminded me of this photo I took this photo of my skis about a month ago. Factory finish.
